A Guide for the Professional Woman at Work or in Business

Mentorship through Reading

One of the key ingredients to a successful business woman is having a mentor. A mentor is someone who has successfully done what you want to accomplish and is willing to guide you and share the secret of success with you. What if you are a business woman without a mentor? Then do what many successful professional women do and read biographies about or books by successful people that they admire. Many books written by successful people reflect their attitudes and ideals about life, management and business. Many of today's hottest CEOs are writing books about their recent triumphs. Most of these books have been on the business best sellers list such as Mary Kay, You Can Have It All: Lifetime Wisdom from America's Foremost Woman Entrepreneur by Mary Kay Ash or Direct From Dell: Strategies That Revolutionized an Industry by Michael Dell. These books will give you a lesson in the thought processes of two of the most successful and influential entrepreneurs of our time.

If you can find an autobiography, it would be the best place to start. Next to being directly mentored by people of great success would be to read the first hand account of how they made it. An autobiography allows you to get inside of a person's thinking and emotions about the most impacting events of one's life. You can usually find some things that you will be able to relate to in your own life and gain valuable insight into how this very successful person had handled or related to a similar experience. In an autobiography, you will find out about the key decisions they made that led to the development of their passion for their goals, their attitude, how they accepted defeat and how they enjoyed victory. From Presidents, CEOs, business owners to sports coaches and sports heroes there is no end to the mentorship that is available. Find someone whose life, management style, attitude, success, accomplishments, etc that you would like to emulate and let them mentor you through their books and autobiographies. Remember "Leaders are Readers" and we will Meet You at the TOP!
