Do You REALLY Know Your Employee Benefits?

You could be throwing money away Right Now and you don't even know it! Are you taking full advantage of all the employee benefits available to you at your job? Do you even know what they are and how they work? Did you know a good benefits package – health coverage, retirement plans and life insurance could be worth at least one-third of your salary? In this highly competitive world, employers are forced to offer more and more perks to hire and maintain valuable employees, but if you don't take advantage of all these great benefits then you are quite literally throwing money away! Whether you just started a new job or you've been at your job for years, there's never been a better time to evaluate your benefits and make sure you are maximizing your perks.

The first step is to get familiar with the most current benefits available at your job. If you are a new hire, ask for a conference with the personnel department to ensure you understand everything you are entitled to receive and when you're eligible to start getting benefits. Also get a copy of the most current employee benefits manual. For you veteran employees, you'll need to dust off the benefits manual and request all the updates if necessary.

With your employee benefits manual in hand and the MsFiscallyFit Benefits Checklist (click here to print this form), identify exactly what perks are available to you. If available through your company, they should be listed in the Table of Contents or the Index in the back of your benefits manual. You can also ask the personnel manager to help you fill out the checklist.
