A Guide for the Professional Woman at Work or in Business

Success is a 4 - Step Commitment

Every woman, especially the professional woman, wants to excel in every area of her life. The secret to success is all about commitment to a goal and setting out to achieve that goal. Today I am going to share with you a brief overview of the process. Each step will be covered in depth in later articles.

Here is the 4 - Step Commitment

    • 1. Set your goals
    • 2. Decide what you are going to change
    • 3. Associate with successful people
    • 4. Make a plan of action and follow it

1 - Set your goals

To get to your destination, you need to know where you are going. It sounds so elementary, doesn't it? But would you be surprised to know that 95% of people don't write down their goals? You can become one the successful 5% by writing down exactly what you want to accomplish and by when (having a time frame is very important). This first step is the most important as it is the foundation to determine the next three steps.

2 - Decide what you are going to change

To have something you have never had, you must do something you have never done. You can't expect anything in your life to change unless you are willing to change to make something happen. If you want a promotion at your job, what will you have to do to get it? Will you need to learn something new? Will you need to go back to school? Or, will you need to increase your performance? Only you can make these decisions (do more - learn more- change a bad habit). Analyze your situation and decide what you are willing to change to get what you want.

3 - Associate with successful people

If you wanted to publish a book, from whom would you want to get advice? Certainly, you would want to consult with some one in the publishing industry, authors who had been published, or in the best situation, a mentor who has done exactly what you want to do. Associating can also be defined as networking with the right people. Join industry associations, networking groups, chambers of commerce, clubs and charitable associations. You will find many successful people involved in these functions and you will be able to meet successful people who can help you.

4 - Make a plan of action and follow it

Set on paper a plan of action that will eventually take you to your ultimate goals. Write it down, review it and refer to it often, and start NOW . Your plan of action should be your goals broken down into smaller steps with time frames for accomplishment. For example, take two classes per semester for the next two years to obtain a certification.

Success is not a destination, but a journey of many small steps.

Remember, it's your choice - choose wisely and we will Meet You at the TOP!
