Herbals & Supplements
A natural alternative for a healthy lifestyle

In this section on Herbals  & Supplements, we will not get into all the talk about herbals & supplements being around for centuries and how the medical profession still doesn't fully recognize the importance that herbals &  supplementation can provide in "preventative medicine".  We will cover the proclaimed benefits of different herbals and allow you to decide about your personal choice to supplement or not to supplement.  The information contained in these articles is meant for information only and is not a recommendation or an endorsement of any of the herbals &  supplements mentioned in any of the articles.  You are advised to consult with your physician or health care professional before you start taking herbals &  supplements.  With the "legalese" out of the way, let's get on with it!

Coenzyme Q10 - For the Young at Heart

It's a never-ending battle to slow down the aging process.  We're all still waiting for someone to discover the fountain of youth, but until that happens exercise and proper diet are the best defenses you have against aging.  Unfortunately, as we age our bodies change and in the process, the production of an important substance known as Coenzyme Q10 slows down.  Coenzyme Q10 plays a crucial role in maintaining your immune system and slowing down the aging process, specifically as it relates to your heart.  Q10 has been used in the treatment of heart disease.  In addition to fighting heart disease, research has revealed that Coenzyme may help in the treatment of high blood pressure, allergies, asthma and may benefit those suffering mental disorders such as schizophrenia and Alzheimer's disease.

Coenzyme is a vitamin-like substance that resembles vitamin E and is concentrated in the organs that burn a lot of energy like the heart, liver and kidneys.  It is known for its antioxidant properties and should be supplemented in the diet to promote healthy functioning organs.

Foods that contain high levels of Coenzyme Q10 are mackerel, salmon and sardines.  If you are looking for a more convenient form of Q10, most popular nutritional stores carry it in capsule form.  Be careful when purchasing it because not all products offer it in its purest form.  Coenzyme should be bright yellow in color and tasteless in powdered form.  Pure Q10 will lose its effectiveness in temperatures exceeding 115 degrees Fahrenheit.

Add Coenzyme Q10 to your diet and let's all stay young at heart!
