Beat the Flu Blues with Echinacea

Don't you just hate it?  Everyone around you has the sniffles, a little cough or "the real deal", the flu.  With your family and career, there are so many demands on your time that you can not afford to be sick.  What can you do?  You can't lock yourself into your home and become a hermit.  Beat the "flu blues" with echinacea.

Echinacea is a flower type of plant that makes its home in North America.  Dating back to the early 1700's, North American Indians were known to treat various skin problems and diseases with echinacea.  During the 1800's, echinacea had found uses in our society and was promoted for good health and used for inflammations and infections.  Due to the growth of modern medicine, echinacea had taken a back seat until recent rebirth as a cold fighter.

With the current interest in herbal remedies and pharmacology, echinacea has made a huge comeback. It is being used be many people who claim echinacea helps to support the body's natural resistance to disease and infection to colds.  Scientists have found polysaccharides in echinacea and these substances are thought to stimulate the immune system and aid the body in fighting off viruses.  There is more and more research being done in exploring the role of echinacea in the antibacterial and anti viral areas.  It appears that there are cold fighting benefits in combining echinacea with vitamin C.  It is also believed that zinc supports normal function of the immune system.

Fight back against the "cold season" and start taking echinacea now and get a head start on beating the "flu blues".

There aren't any perfectly safe medicinal and herbal solutions so always be sure that the product you purchase is from a reliable and reputable source.  Children under 2 and pregnant women should not to use echinacea. Some research has shown that echinacea should not be used longer than 8 weeks straight because it may cause immune system depression and echinacea should not be used in the treatment of auto-immune diseases.
